Walmart Expands

Actually, CEO Jeff Rein's salary $1,116,667 is not that high, plus he is both CEO and Chairman, A million bucks per year is not a lot for a CEO of a Fortune 500 firm. He has bold plans like taking Walgreen overseas and entering the New York City market to gain more exposure for the brand.

Walgreen is investing for the long haul by going after the five boroughs of New York including Manhattan. If earnings go up like they should then we should see nice pop in stock price. The bold strategy of expanding overseas will pay big dividends and done right this could be a can’t miss marketing strategy. I hope this is the beginning of a new more international company that competes on a global scale.

However, that said, any more surprises like last years profit miss and Jeff Rein's rein could be as short-lived as ice-cream on a hot day. They are adding to many items to the stores. This is a pharmacy not a grocery store. The profit picture for pharmacy side is good, but the new hypermarts are not performing as well.

We need the stock price to go up in 2008. They are talking about slowing down the building of new stores; that and current economic conditions could mean a slowdown in corporate earnings. Acquiring Happy Harry was a mistake that will cost Walgreen. They need to focus on building new and not doing a refurbish of an old property. Shareholders need to worry about next year’s recession.

Analysts are expecting the recession next year to knock off three cents from the earnings picture and this could affect the stock price.

I hope Jeff Rein's team will encourage stock price appreciation since their stock options increase in value when that happens and stock options are the bulk of their pay.

Southwest homes help conserve water

Spanish style homes are my favorites. The Hacienda house look adds value to your property as well as fun. One of the best attributes of Southwestern style homes is xeriscape landscaping to conserve water. We have seen the importance of being frugal with our resources.

The insulation of Southwestern style homes allows them to remain cool in the summer and warm in the winter. The stone walls trap the heat during the day and radiate it at night to make the home a cozy place.

Still, I believe that the xeriscape landscaping of Spanish style houses adds an extra benefit as we conserve our resources to create a better world.

Motown is most dangerous city in US

In yet another blow to the stricken motor city, Detroit is now the most dangerous city in America. The dubious title was added after crime stats show an alarming rate of violent crime. Not only is Detroit suffering from layoffs triggered by GM's record breaking 39 billion dollar loss, but housing prices have dropped drastically in the last few months with a record number of foreclosures.

Cut the Card

In 1991 the average credit card debt in US was $3103, but by 2006 it had shot up to $9659 over three times as much. The average person is under almost ten thousand dollars in high interest debt. Tack on all the fees and special charges and that is a big percentage of the income that goes to pay for debt.

Years ago many people had a plan to refinance their home and pay off the credit card, but now it is hard to find a bank willing to do so because houses are losing value. Most credit card customers are spending less this year and plan to pay off debt. This means a lean holiday season for merchants.

My suggestion is cut the card, get out of debt and breathe free once more.

My two missing gallons

Early this year, in Jan 2007 I was paying $1.87 per gallon of gasoline, but now the price is over $3/gal for gas. I used to get five gallons of gas for ten bucks, but now only get three. Where are my missing two gallons? How do I get them back?

Well, the gallons are not literally missing, it is just that the dollar is worthless. Still, there is a way to get them back.

First the average all american car gets 20 miles per gallon, so 20 miles X 5 gallons gives me 100 miles which is what I could travel before. Now, if I get a small car like the Chevy Aveo which gets 34mpg the equation is 34 X 3 = 102 miles.

Actually, we are better off because less fuel means less CO2 and other greenhouse gases. And if I boost my miles per gallon by over inflating the tires, costing to a stop, and cutting the antenna (less drag) then I get 40mpg. Not only do I save the environment. I also save money.

Evidence for Time Travel?

What would constiture time travel evidence; predictions like Nostradamus? Or perhaps pictures of strange devices from the future like John Titor? I like to think that a time traveller would be able to present evidence for time travel by telling me things that will soon happen that are both mundane and common. Not a great disaster, but an event like the iphone, years before it happens.

There is a story of a lady time traveller who gave evidence of time travel and later it happened.

Homefindingbook

Right now my mom is trying to sell her house. The real estate market is difficult right now as there are more sellers than buyers. Banks are not loaning money. I am glad to find the homefindingbook web site. It is all about real estate, including realtors in your area and a free home valuation guide.

Use the real estate agent directory to either find a home or sell one. There is also information on getting a loan and finding insurance. So sign up today, it's free.

Go for the GOLD

Ever wonder why I tell people to invest in precious metals. Well, things look golden for those that did. Gold which was $250/oz back in 2001 is now over 800 and soon will be over 1000. As the dollar loses value more and more people are going to go for the GOLD.

Coping With Crisis

A crisis can be as small as losing a job, or as large as a nuclear war, but how we deal with adversity helps to define us as people. An excellent book written by Jim Burtles is “Coping With Crisis”. This book helps us deal with the day to day challenges that we face in real life.

Through his life Jim has had much experience in dealing with crisis situations. He is an expert in disaster recovery and emergency management. He brings years of experience in dealing with adverse events. This real world experience proves to be valuable as he explains various concepts in his book. He can help train you to deal with emergency scenarios as they develop.

This book will help prepare us for the difficult days that lie ahead. I highly recommend getting "Coping with Crisis: A Counselor's Guide To The Restabilization Process" by Jim Burtles. The book was published by Loving Healing Press, Ann Arbor, MI on Sept 2007. You can contact Jim at +1 734 662 6864

New service does side by side comparisons

It is called BESTBUYS.COM with an "S" and the object is to find the best deals for you. We can scan the deals and find out which stores have the best special deals of the holiday season. Best Buys Comparison Reviews is the key to saving money this year on your holiday shopping.

This site allows you to compare two services head on like DIET.COM or eDIETS.COM and see what the benefits are of each program. My favorite comparison is the one of Netflix vs Blockbuster. They contrast what each service has to offer and how much each costs per month.

Another good comparison is Dish Network versus Direct TV. My only complaint is that the website is very similar in name to another large website that is very popular so remember to add an "S". So check out BESTBUYS.COM and find the best buys of the season.

Adsense Video Units?

Has anyone tried out the new service called Adsense video Units? I want to do so. Soon, I will post more about this service, but first will have to test it out. It sounds to me like a winner. Peace!

FOR SALE - 2,000,000 vacant homes

The real estate market is weak and getting weaker with millions of homes sitting empty. Unmowed lawns and weed filled driveways point to the end of the road for the American Dream. We have more homes vacant than ever before. The situation is rapidly getting out of control. With interest rates going up and banks refusing to lend money, properties are not moving.

Most of the glut due to overbuilding would disappear in a few months in ordinary circumstances, but there are not normal times. We are rapidly descending into a reccession.

Mortgage Meltdown

Instead of things getting better, they are getting worse. The battered real estate market may continue its downward spiral past 2009 and beyond. We see no quick fix to this situation.

The global market might begin to recover if the banks sort out their badf loan problem. Which means that many loans will be written off. In fact, many banks might fail in the next few years.

Should I buy a Radar Detector?

Should I buy a Radar Detector?

Radar detectors are useful in telling when a cop car, ambulance, or even a fire truck is approaching (or waiting lol). Now what are you wanting to do with this radar detector? Speed and not get caught? Probably not the best idea because Police officers can still pull you over if they think you are speeding. I don't condon wreckless driving but well we all speed every once in awhile. It would be nice to maybe get out of a ticket because you know there is an officer waiting up there to clock you.

I could see how this would be a good thing I mean you can buy a decent radar detector for $40 and it could save you the expense of having to pay a $300 speeding ticket. It would be a good investment from where I am setting lol. I have only had two speeding tickets in my life and well $600 later I still speed every once in awhile.

I heard that radar detector can protect you from thier radar guns?

This is true there are some models of radar detectors/radar jammers that can protect you from the radar guns the the police officers use. However not all radar detectors have this feature if you are looking to get one that does you will need to read carefully and it will say protects from such and such laser guns. This isn't a really bad deal ether being able to avoid being clocked by a gun keeps many cops from pulling you over at all. However, I do not condon wreckless driving again if you purchase a radar detector I must insist that you drive carefully and not wrecklessly.

I do not promot breaking the law but somtimes you look down and your doing 80 in a 70 which isn't all that uncommong for me. I do it without even knowing that I am doing it.

Thanks for reading my article and if you wish to purchase a radar detector you can from my site we have really great prices. We have some of the leading radar detectors out there for the best value for example we have the Cobra XRS9930 for only $141.74 and our competitors sell it for $200+. We also have many great deals on other things besides just radar detectors.

Future Travel

In the past many thought that the future of travel would be giant dirigibles filled with helium. Later flying cars like the Jetsons. Well, now some think it will be plug in hybrids or an electric car.

Teleporters and solar powered vehicles may exist in the future, but the challenges of producing a workable electric car are many. Well need a breakthrough in electrical storage as current battery technology using lithium ion only gives us a 30 mile range.

Plug in the power

Using Lithium ion batteries the Toyota Prius can be run on electric power. This is great news. We can cut down on oil consumption.

Still, the plug in hybrids are more expensive than regular gasoline cars. Hopping on the bandwagon is the GM Volt coming out in 2010, which should work fine with a new lithium ion battery. The future is here.

Beautiful Madeira

Ii is a group of islands off the the coast of Portugal known as the Autonomous Region of Madeira which are composed of the following - Madeira Island, Desertas Islands, Porto Santo Island, and the Savage Islands.

These beautiful islands are covered in laurisilva forests. The bigest laurisilva forestis in Madeira, it occurs between 300 and 1400 meters altitude in the northern slope of the island.

Many of these great forests were cut down for sugar cane. We see that sugar used to be the "white gold" of Madeira and brought much wealth to the island.

There is still today, a sugar mill in Calheta village that has the original crushing machines run by a steam engine that is about 200 years old. This relic of a bygone age is the only one left in the world.

Most people that are into search engine op are pushing linking. Well. that is all and good, but in the future Google will not emphasize links as much as now.

It will be a combo of content and user rating, much like the feedback that Yahoo now uses to rate stories. This keep poor qual content from dominating the top. When you see maxed out content you give it five stars and boom-ja it goes top.

Bush to pardon Libby

This administration has failed the American people in some many ways. It has failed to protect our borders and we have 12 million illegals some say 25 million illegals inside the United States. It has failed to protect our cities as 911 amply showed. It has failed to protect our jobs as outsourcing and offshoring to India and China show.

Even the rule of law is not upheald as Bush saying he might pardon Scooter Libby shows.

We regret to say that this administration's complete disregard for law and JUSTICE, as well as George Bush's failure to execute the laws and respect the Constitution of the United States leads us to one conclusion - that a gang of gangsters is running our country. With an approval rating of less than 20%, the lowest in history, George Bush no longer represents the American people - I move for a vote of no confidence.

Mortgage foreclosures hit record

I predicted back in the late 90's that the irrational exhuberance of the stock market was going to lead t a lot of tears. Then in 2004 that real estate was about to crash. Well, never say you were not warned.

It seems that the banks are now being pulled under by record foreclosures. California and Nevada are hit hard. Real estate is not real, and it ain't bankable.

Dell to fire 1/10 workers

Dell announced it will cut one tenth of its work force. This is to increase profits.

I have a better idea. If they want to save money why not close down their corporate headquarters and fire the executives making $100,000,000 A YEAR. And keep the lowly workers making the starvation wage of 50 cents an hour.

The serfs on the factory floor are working their guts out - they do not need to be fired, meanwhile in his lofty corporate castle is a 300 lbs executive constantly eating doughnuts, and he sends his secretary out to get more doughnuts. The only exercise this pig does is lifting food to his mouth.

He says we have to "Cut the fat." - I agree!

Way to spend less on gas

Here are ways to spend less on gasoline. We are facing a time with record high gas prices. Look at the ways to spend less on gas as more money in your pocket.

Right now the tense situation in Nigeria is blamed for our current shortage of fuel. This will get worse.

Gas prices hit record high

In Chicago today, gasoline went over $3.50 a gallon. In some parts of the US west coast the price is over $4/gal and rising.

We have a problem. The economy will grind to a halt without oil. Most of US well are running dry and we have to import a greater percentage of our oil.

The time is now for bold leadership on this pressing issue.

Digital drives ecommerce

I remember when I got a digital camera in the 90's it was a Sony that took a 3 1/2 diskette for storage. The reason was Ebay. Before buying the digital camera I was taking analog photos with my film camera walking to a one hour photo lab nearby, then they were developing them giving me prints. Then scanning the prints using my hand scanner (remember those?) and fixing the scan. It was an expensive labor intensive process.

It was much faster and easier to take photographs using a digicam and pop the diskette into my computer and upload them to Ebay. Also pictures for my web pages became much easier.

The future cameras will become smaller, faster, cheaper, etc. I paid over $500 for a camera that gave me less than one megapixel. Now I bought on Ebay a camera that was 3.1MP for $50 and you do not need more resolution than that for Ebay.

Now some cameras come with WiFi already so you do not need to connect them to your computer to upload the pictures. The future of cameras is here.

Is it ethical to alter photos?

One of the most pressing questions that dominates many discussions of web masters that take place in the highly competitive world of the internet is - Is it ethical to alter photos?

Think about it. It's not just lying. It is - thou shall not steal. A deliberately decietful photo can cost you the buyer. Also it can ruin the rep of a seller. Most sellers that think buyer do not mind "enhanced" photos never step into the shoes of the buyer.

As Jesus "Do onto others as you would have them do onto you." Few buyers would want an altered photo. Most want to see what the item looks like.

When the web is a lie you trust it less. You might want to go to a physical store. At least there you can see the item you are buying. The web becomes less useful if sellers are allowed to alter pictures of products.

High price of GAS

We are paying ome and more as the pump. The problem is that the supply of oil is going down and demand is going up.

The high price of gasoline is fueling the surging inflation because costs go up as fuel prices go up. This creates even more problems for our troubled economy. Already in some states people are paying over $3/gal for gas.

I want to do SEO on ways to save money on fuel.

Buying Links on Ebay

I have bought links on Ebay for a very low price. Now, however a site that did benefit from this strategy has been hit with a PR0 site wide. It used to have a PR5 and sub pages had PR4 and PR3.

Now they are all PR0 and I wonder why. There were many links coming to the page. Now I heard before that you could not get penalized on inbound links. Not so sure.

Perhaps a new Algo check sites known to sell links. Perhaps they monitor link sellers. The total links and traffic has gone up month after month so that is not the reason.

Selling on the internet

As many of you know, search engine optimization (SEO) is very important in how you rank in the search. Most people want to a get top ten listing in all the big search engines, but this is hard because you have a lot of competition.

So many people search for words that get a lot of clicks but have little competition. They use tools like Nichebot or word tracker or keyword discovery. These tools will help you locate Terms with little competition and lots of clicks.

The key is to find the right keywords and to place them in your body copy so that the search engines will give you a top ten ranking. This will in turn create traffic for your web site. Hopefully, this traffic will convert into sales and you will be able to survive.

The problem is that even when you sell an item, you have a lot of expenses which eat into whatever money you make over the Internet. For this reason, most companies on the Internet do not last long.

In addition to search engine optimization, you need to have a good business plan. You need to calculate before you go into business how many sales you need to survive. That way you can quickly gauge if you reach your target.

I will discuss more about this in the future, but for now bad as use a rough rule of thumb. Most products sold over the Internet will generate about $10.00 in usable money. Now, now calculate how much money you need to live. For a parole, is that you need $100.00 a day. So, if you sell items you make enough to survive.

Now think, how many clicks do I need to sell ten items. A rough rule of thumb is that you need 100 items for each successful sale. Now calculate the number of keywords that you have. It you get position one on the search engine, you typically get 10% of the total traffic. Position two 5% and position three 3%.

I got these figures by looking at overture and then looking at how much traffic I was getting for that particular keyword. It is important to be in position one because you get the lion’s share of the traffic. Still you will not be position one for all key words but if you get enough keywords, you should have sufficient traffic to generate the needed ten sales.

Be careful! CEO detained for taking pictures.

Last year I was in Miami taking pictures of hotels and cops told me to put away the camera. It seems that terrorists take pix of buildings so nobody is supposed to take pix. Just recently the CEO of Fotolia was arrested in Paris for taking pictures. He was later released, but the message is so clear. It seems that we stepped into a time warp where NAZI Germany won WWII. Smile for the camera POLICE STATE!

Speaking of Miami, the supposed cruise ship capital of the world. Here is what really happens on board a luxury cruise ship.
BTW, don't take pictures there either I had my camera taken away. It seems like we are scared of our own shadows - like frightened cockroaches that hide under the refrigerator when somebody turn on the lights.

According to police, terrorists carry foreign currency, maps, cameras, and speak with funny accents. Sounds like a tourist to me...
