I look for keywords with low competition and big traffic. My keyword research strategy is based on using the following search engines -

Quintura
Clusty
Kartoo

From them I can create a list of keywords that will send traffic to the web site.

To narrow the list I use -

Keyword discovery
Wordtracker
Microsoft adcenter
