That was then

I still remember thirty years ago going overseas and seeing the extreme poverty and then returning to the US and seeing the vast wealth we had. It was amazing that we had so much when the world had so little. There were huge neighborhoods - blocks and blocks of multimillion dollar houses. Where do all these people work?

Now these houses are in a "bad neighborhood" and falling apart. Gone is the bouyant US economy. The engines of our manufacturing sector are rusting away in an old junkyard, turned into scrap metal for a Chinese factory. The so called probiz crowd have relocateds their factories to Red China.

All execs talks about is that they have to downsize, outsource, gotta cut costs! Well, I never see them "downsize" their palatial house, or sell their luxury vehicle and get a Tata Nano, or instead of fine wine, cheap buy rot gut at the grocery store.

It appears that all the cuts are done by the workers, meanwhile the executives live in the lap of luxury. The workers are forced to live with less, while the salaries for executives go up and up. All this talk of cuts is one way.
