Search ranking factors

Here are some search ranking factors. There are divided into on page optimization and off page optimization.

On page optimization is the content of your page like for example an H1 tag, versus off page is like the anchor text of a link from a friends web site back to your page. Most important of the ranking factors is the number of links you have. Old pages tend to have more, so this helps keep stale content on the internet.

Mostly, Google looks at the number of links and uses that number to rank your page, older search engines relied on the actual content on the page, but that led to spamming, so they are out of the game now.
