OK are neg reviews good for biz?

People wonder if negative reviews are good for business. Well, my answer is an emphatic no. There is a clown that goes to amazon and gives bad reviews of my material. This guy never even read them. I can tell you the effect of a negative review is a decrease in sales.

Well, imagine a movie critic that does not even step foot into a cinema, but give a motion picture a nasty review without even seeing it. OR, better yet, a person that is critical of a future toy before it even comes.

say no to nofollow

There is no reason to use nofollow. The link juice will evaporate. It use to be that people would slap a rel nofollow on outgoing links to prevent leaking of linkjuice, but those days are over.

Sadly, new algo will make trouble for you, by destroying link value of nofollow links. This is not good. Try to use rel nofollow only to prevent a page from being index and it still gets indexed. The attribute is worthless now.

If your content is deemed very inappropriate for a professional work environment expect few links. OK so make sure that you try to appeal to a broad audience.

It is an SEO trap to appeal only to a small group. Also, avoid offending groups of people with your humor. The key to SEO success is lots of articles and long tail keywords.

SEO traffic

Here are some tips to getting traffic using SEO.

Create one page per keyword and focus on that theme. Find outside links to help the main topic of your page. Make sure keyword is in title, subheads, and body copy.

Get ideas using nichebot and focus your efforts on very long tail keywords with low volumes of search activity. For example, less than one hundred clicks per month.

Do not waste time optimizing for tiny niche as those with less than ten clicks per month as there is not enough traffic to make it worth your while.

What happen to cheap gas?

Remember earlier last year gas was over $4/gal and then this year how we pay a lot less? OK so where did the cheap gas go?

Sadly, many free services on the web now have premium areas. There are parts where the goodies are, so you gotta pay to play. With SEO I believe that many search engines will begin to charge to be in the top three positions much like Yahoo did back in the day, and perhaps the same for videos.

To make money you cannot give away the store, but must charge for product. The model of the free internet is so 90's.

Google and real time web

It can take Google a few days to find new content. The idea is that real time web with twitter could replace Google, but the problem is that spammer pollute tweets with bogus links. They cannot do this on Google as much because Google has good algorithms to filter out junks.

Still, a real time web could be the future. It would work similar to digg by using massive user base to rate the story and thus allow more popular content to rise in rank. This could be better than our current PR algo.

Google Wonder Wheel

Google Wonder Wheel is a new SEO tool that you can use in your search to find keywords. Wonder Wheel went live today. It has been in Google Labs since March of this year. They way to use this tool is to go to Google.com and click on [MORE OPTIONS] link to get a side bar window. Inside this side bar scroll to the bottom and click on the bright colorful link that says [WONDERWHEEL].

A central hub with spokes will appear. Your search phrase is in the center of the wheel and related phrases are on each of the spokes. To see how this is done click on the video below. It is a movie about how to use Google Wonder Wheel.

The video shows how a person can FIND more keywords related to their search topic. They can use these keywords in their web pages to make them more relevant. These are the keywords that Google feels are important and have a high affinity for that particular search term. By clicking on a spoke a new node will appear with even more keywords that you can add to your key phrases.

Look at the movie as it will help you build your long tail campaign around relevant keywords. This is important for the new LSI algorithm that has replaced keyword density in scoring which pages get to be on top.

search engine wars

The big three search engines {google yahoo and msn} are at war. Search engines are fighting for control of the internet. Right now Google is on top, but at one time Yahoo was the king.

Yahoo took over Altavista. Overture, and many smaller search engines, but it slowly faded away. The results on Google were better. MSN did not take off because it did not focus on search, but instead finding a way to piggy back on Windows.

Google rules because it moves into new areas like video using Youtube. Perhaps it can move into social media by a purchase of DIGG. MSN is fading and a merger with Yahoo would not have turned things around. MSN should instead improve its product.

Search engines hit hard by severe recession

Sadly, our economic breakdown has hurt search engines, for example, Yahoo net earnings are down 78%. This is over 3/4 decline. This means that search engines will not be able to find enough money to expand their research and development department.

Also, they could add more ads making them less useful to searchers on the internet. I feel that non income producing properties like Youtube could be closed down to save money in our severe recession.

Bloggers vs newspapers SEO

Blogs are replacing newspaper. It was inevitable that new technology can move people away from old. For one thing blogs are easy and fast to update, and for another they have a lower cost of distribution as it is easier to move electrons than wood pulp.

However, many newspapers folded because the did not sell links on their stories. Well, some thought this was bad manners, others were afraid of Google. They could have used their awesome power for SEO. Still, many refuse to give people links. Bloggers on the other hand often trade links and did make use of new SEO power.

Keyword SEO

Learning Keyword SEO is vital. This is so because we need to harness the power of mighty search engines to bring traffic to our lowly pages. When internet was young many pages had titles like PAGE1 and precious little content. It was then that people began to understand that you need content and keywords to help others find your page. OK so many SEO mavens started keyword stuffing to boost rank. This period did not last long, beecause now what is important is the keyword in the incoming anchor text. In the future social sites will be more important as we move to a new strategy.

Chrysler Bankrupt

Here is a TV show about selli8ng cars that should alert you to why Chrysler failed. Used car salesman Harvey Hunnicut should work for crySLUR AKA crysis. It is not commerce, but rather CONmerce, as in bailing out banksters and a few used car dealers. Hey, you are paying these clown to take your money, enjoy.....

SEO lesson from Chrysler

Today the struggling US automaker went under. What can we learn. First off, you need a good product to convince consumers to invest in you. Chrysler made horrible ugly cars that people did not want. For SEO to attain success you need to push a product that people want. For instance, no amount of advertising or SEO can help push junk long term.

Chrysler should have been allowed to go under in the 70's. Instead the gov kept alive a loser. Learn your lesson, bury losers and push good products. I have spent time pushing losers only to find that they eventually will go under anyway.

Why I don't dig DIGG

For a while DIGG was a great concept with people voting for stories, but it seems a bit rigged, I mean the few topics I submit never hit front page. Well, now we see that the DIGGbar makes Digg even more worthless as a source of information and for link bait.

Classic pump and dump scheme like our bear market rally which boosted the DOW which is also manipulated. They got a few more suckers to swim into the net thinking that they were getting big name dow shares at bargain basement price, then poof the stock market goes down yet once more.

Tuesday, April 07, 2009

Digg worthless for SEO

Digg now shortens URLs so it does not pass link juice. Digg is now worthless for SEO. Sad to see such a wonderful resource become a piece of junk.

Saturday, April 04, 2009

Youtube losing big green

Yes, it is a money pit. Youtube went to HD movies and a 320 X 240 video is about 3 megs, but a few days ago I uploaded a HQ HD 720p film that was over 500 megs in size. OK, guess what, over half of the expenses of Youtube are bandwidth. This nuTV is making Google poor.

This year Youtube will lose over 470 million dollars, that is near half a billion folks. I see in the future two alternatives. That we pay for premium content, or that Google shuts down this money losing operation.

SEO Jobs

Finding a job in SEO can be difficult with our economic crisis, but no worry SEOJOBFINDER can help you find a job. This is an SEO search engine for jobs. Log files for SEO

Log File analysis is important in SEO. That is because you need to find out where your traffic is coming (Digg SEO) from and where they go once they enter your web site. Think of your site as a funnel that directs viewers toward a sales page where they buy your products.

Link Building

Links are the currency of the new internet age. OK as people move away from pay per click to SEO, we see a new way forward. Trading content and resources will lead to more links and less PPC. Building links will become more important; however, there will be less clicks and far less SALES.

Youtube Ranking Optimization or (YRO)

You have heard of SEO. Well, make way for YRO. Youtube Ranking Optimization or (YRO) is a way to get you movies top rank on Youtube. The TITLE seems to be the most important for Youtube Ranking Optimization. These are the YRO factors that I believe will help determine who is ranked number one.

TITLE - make sure keywords are in there
DESCRIPTION - have at least a 2% density for keys.
TAGS - are all your keywords here?
LINKS - anchor text should have keys in it.
COMMENTS - should have your keywords in it.
FAVORITES - this means people like your video.

Do you follow nofollow links?

Many people discount the nofollow links, but the value of a link is not just Page Rank search influence. Links can also provide traffic to your website, visibility, and simply by being on a site more patronage for your products. People feel more secure seeing and later buying your product if they previously saw a link on a powerful authority site.

Disappearing Blog Post

The disappearing blog post phenomenon is a cause of loss of SEO. You see a post on position one, then poof it is gone!

Where did this ghost post go? The answer is that Google freshbot puts it on the search rank listing, but then it got taken down after a few days. This is bad for searchers as they will look for stuff and it is missing days later when they really need it, so we should bookmark things because tomorrow it may be gone.

SEO in images

Getting Google to love your photographs mean SEO for images. As you may already know the ALT tag is important for SEO because this is how Google knows what your photo is about. It also looks at the image name and any text that is around the picture.

Google is working on AI so it can identify picture, but we are not there yet. Therefore I wish that you understand how a photo is indexed. The highest weight goes to the ALT tag, then the JPG name, and finally text near an image.

The move in SEO and away from PPC

OK, our budget for this year is smaller and PPC is one area to get cut. The replacement is SEO. In fact, using search engine optimization yield a much better cost of per new customer than PPC. The old pay per click model is broken. As the percent conversion drops due to an economic crisis, bids that use to be profit generating are now an added cost on a business that can ill afford them. The future for SEO looks bright, but PPC is very dim.

Google has up my bids on many keywords that were not even making a profit. The decision to drop them is made more easy as we realize that with SEO the work you do today will continue to pay after the economy begins to recover. With PPC prices will go up even higher when we enter recovery.
